Pauline Oliveros

Pauline Oliveros, May 30, 1932 – November 25th 2016, was an American composer/accordionist. She was a key figure in the creation of post-war and experimental electronic music. She was the founder of the San Francisco Tape music center in 1960s and was its director. She was a professor of music at Mills College and the University of California San Diego (UCSD), Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Oliveros wrote books, developed new music theories and explored new ways to concentrate attention on music, including her concepts of “Deep Listening”, and “sonic awareness”.
