Pekka Pohjola was the son of Ensti Pohjola, a choirmaster, and Erkki, a long-serving conductor of Tapiola Choir. Pohjola’s music drew on influences from folk, jazz, and traditional hymns. At the Sibelius Academy, he studied classical music (piano).
