Per Gärdin

b. 1956, alto and soprano saxophones used mainly in improvisational settings. At first self-taught, he later studied music theory and saxophone for Lennart Jasson. At Stockholm University, he also studied Musicology and Ethnology as well as Philosophy and History of Ideas. Collaborations in music at EMS (the electronic music studio in Stockholm) 1979-1982. In the late 1980s, I was part of various studio jazz sessions as a duo/trio/quartet. In the 1990s, mainly small groups of improvisers and recordings were made. I have played and/or studied scores by Jan Bark/Folke Rabe (Bolos), Terry Riley, and Cornelius Cardew. 2009-2010, a member and/or student of Total Vibration (including Markus Breuss and Tsukiko Amberawa), a group that focuses on Don Cherry-compositions.
