Quadro Nuevo in Europe is the answer to the Argentine tango. Arabesques and Balkan swing, balads, daredevilimprovisations, and ballads are just a few of the many musical styles that combine the richness of Europe’s past with the Mediterranean’s lightness to create dazzling songs of joyous colour. These songs tell the story of vagabond life. They are full of encounters and experiences on this great life journey. Quadro Nuevo has been on the road since 1996, giving more than 3000 concerts all over the world. The road took them from Upper Bavaria to Porto and then to Europe, where they crossed the Alps to Porto. The quartet’s unique style of melodic poetry has been developed over the course of their journeys. It is unmistakably inspired by their passion for their instruments and the joy that comes with making music. Their devotion is the secret to their success: It is rare to see music performed with such passion, verve, and empathy for other cultures. The venues of the Quartet are as varied as their music’s roots and include festivals and concert halls. Quadro Nuevo’s passionate virtuosi can be found on piazzas throughout southern Europe. They are equally at home in jazz clubs and other locations such as New York’s Carnegie Hall, where they encourage people to dance to their music. Quadro Nuevo’s CDs were nominated for the German Jazz Award and reached the Top Ten on the Jazz and World Music charts. They also received the European Phono Award in Paris. Quadro Nuevo was awarded the Echo, the highest distinction of the German Phono Academy, in the category “Jazz/World Music – Best Live Act”, in 2010 and 2011. Quadro Neuvo has once more turned their attention to Tango after an eventful and exciting trip to Buenos. Mulo Francel: Clarinets D.D., Saxophones Lowka: Acoustic Bass and percussion Andreas Hinterseher; Accordion, Vibrandoneon Evelyn Huber (Piano): History: Quadro Nuevo was formed in 1996 on a gray January day when four young musicians met on a parking lot close to Salzburg. They were commissioned by the Austrian television station ORF to create a film score. The quartet had never met each other. The recording fee was paid at the local Casino, and the film was never broadcast. One thing was certain on that day: A new quartet with an unmistakable voice had been formed. Quadro Nuevo would be the only group that could enjoy nostalgic acoustic music together, moving from one stage to another night after evening. The joyous exuberance reflected in every note became a reality. They have performed at many well-known festivals, including the Montreal Jazz Festival and International Burghausen Jazz Weeks. Apart from the many CDs, the group also published the 224-page autobiographical Road Book Grand Voyage as well as audiobooks with Ulrich Tukur and Ulrike Kriener and Udo Wachtveitl. http://www.glm.de
