Rachelle Ferrell started singing at six years old. This contributed to her “startling six-and-change range of octaves.” She also has the ability to reach whistle register. This is stated in an editorial review. At an early age, she received classical violin training and was able to play the keyboard at a professional level by the time she was 14. Berklee College of Music, Boston was where she learned songwriting, arrangement and singing. The 1992 debut album by Ferrell was released by Capitol Records. It had a pop/contemporary feel. Her unique contract allowed her to release jazz recordings on Blue Note Records. Rachelle performed “I’ve Got Love On My Mind” at the 1999 Lady of Soul Awards. Rachelle received a standing ovation from the audience.
