Radio Piece Iii

The US Prog/Fusion trio was originally an Avant-Garde/Jazz band in 1976. However, it evolved over the years into a Progressive Rock band. Original line-up included Tom Makucevich as keyboardist, Richie Kuchta as drummer and Tom Goroff as bassist. There were many changes to the line-up, with Makucevich remaining a stable member while the band performed as either a quartet or quintet. Mid-80’s Radio Piece saw the band revert to a trio, with Makucevich on keyboards and Larry Benigno as drummer. Radio Star Records released the first album, titled “Radio Piece III”, in 1984. Radio Piece III is a short, but cohesive, work that clocks in at just over 33 minutes. It’s a great work for keyboard lovers and fans of the Fusion sound. The band’s main instruments are analog synths, vibraphone, Hammond and minimoog. They often draw inspiration from Canterbury bands like The Muffins. There are many double keyboard attacks, great solos, and break arounds. The rhythm section’s great playing is interrupted occasionally by the virtuosic keyboards. Sometimes, the minimoog can add a very symphonic feel in the manner of Tony Banks. Percy Jones Tunnels and Uzeb, a Canadian band, are good examples. The album’s mix is excellent and allows the listener to identify the best from each instrument. This work is for you if you like keyboard-based Fusion with light Canterbury or symphonic sounds.
