Red Oak Duo is an evocative fusion of country and jazz. The combination of a sophisticated jazz sound and the soothing sounds of folk and country creates a vivid and unique portrait of America today. The unique duo act is a collaboration between two highly respected composers and improvisors whose relationship began at the California Institute of the Arts. Their debut album, which is a tribute to Bill Frisell and Pat Metheny, paints the American landscapes in vivid detail. Storm Nilson, a native Alaskan who graduated from both CalArts University and McGill University, is also a graduate of McGill University. For the past 13 years, he has been performing, recording and educating across the United States and Canada. Opportunities to perform with top jazz musicians like Charlie Haden or Steve Cardenas have fostered his musical inspiration. Adam Benjamin, a Grammy-nominated composer and pianist, is also recognized by Downbeat magazine as a Rising Star of Jazz. He is the founder of the influential electric crossover quintet Kneebody and has been a longtime collaborator and friend to jazz master Dave Douglas. CDBaby
