Reinier Baas

Reinier Baas is a guitarist and composer who graduated from the Conservatory of Amsterdam with the highest honours in 2010. He also studied part of his studies at New York’s Manhattan School of Music. He has performed at prestigious venues all over the world, including the North Sea Jazz Festival (Bimhuis), Wellington Jazz Festival (Wellington Jazz Festival), and Umbria Jazz Festival (Umbria Jazz Festival). ! He is an active bandleader and has toured in Europe, Japan New Zealand, Australia, and New Zealand with his quintet, “The More Socially Relevant jazz Music Ensemble”. His second album, ‘Mostly Improvised Indie Music’, was awarded the prestigious Edison Award in 2013. He has also performed solo with the Metropole Orkest and the Jazzorchestra of the Concertgebouw. Baas’ fourth studio album, “Reinier Baas Vs. Princess Discombobulatrix”, was released in 2016. It is a’mostly instrumental operetta’. The collaboration with Typex, an illustrator and 15 classical musicians earned Baas a second Edison Award in 2017. Reinier has been awarded composition assignments by the North Sea Jazz Festival and November Music Festival, Sudtirol Jazzfestival, Pynarello, and Sudtirol Jazzfestival. He was the Sudtirol Jazzfestival’s Artist in Residence in 2017. The Royal Concertgebouw granted him a carte blanche in 2018. This resulted in the Gigantic Chamber Music Mini Festival. It features new material for string quartets, voice, guitar, bass clarinet, and alto saxophone. ! !
