Roberto Ottaviano

Roberto Ottaviano was born in Bari and is an internationally renowned Italian saxophonist. He studied saxophone and composition with Bill Russo, George Russell and Steve Lacy. He has been active in concert and recording activity throughout Europe since 1979. He collaborates with many of the best European and American musicians, including Reggie Workman and Mal Waldron. He is the founder of his own quartet Pinturas, and the Roba quartet along with Jean Jacques Avenel, John Betsch, and Glenn Ferris. Ottaviano is a member of the Canto General quintette with Louis Moholo, Karl Berger All Stars. Ottaviano was also a member the Italian Instabile Orchestra. His discography includes recordings for Red and Splasch as well as Soul Note, Dodicilune, Hat Art, Intakt, ECM and DIW. He is the coordinator of the Jazz course at his hometown Conservatory. His solo project “Lontano”, his last, is one of a small number of solo projects. It focuses on the idea nomadism and migration. from www.skopjejazzfest.com.mk
