Norwegian quartet Rohey have a 21st-century freshness that is wall-to-wall, far beyond any notion of vogue or linear genre lines. Their music is full of energy and honesty. They also play music that has deep soul roots, but keeps an eye on the bright future. Rohey Taalah, the lead vocalist, brings all of the emotional complexity that you would expect from a great jazz or soul singer. She can also be compared to any other singer with ease. Ivan Blomqvist’s keys serve a dual purpose of setting down old school sonics while also bringing a retrofuturistic hyperurban tone (akin British IDM). Kristian B. Jacobsen and Henrik Lodoen create a jazz-soulfunk hybrid rhythm section that weaves and ducks with great artfulness. Rohey has toured extensively in Scandinavia and attended almost every major Jazz festival. Their path will continue to grow with the release of “A Million Things” by Jazzland Recordings early 2017. Music this good cannot be kept secret for too long. “A Million Things” is a balance act that many pop artists have lost in the age of studio micro-editing. It teaches how to write and perform a song with full conviction and artful expression without making it difficult for the listener. Their nomination for “Best Single” at the Scandinavian Soul Awards 2015 Rohey Taalah/vocals Ivan Blomqvist/keys is a testament to this.
