Roland Alphonso O.D. Rolando Alphonso O.D. Alphonso arrived in Jamaica with his Jamaican mother at the age two. He began learning saxophone at Stony Hill Industrial School. He left school in 1948 to join Eric Deans orchestra. He quickly passed through various bands on the hotel circuit, and his first recording was in 1952 as a member Stanley Motta’s group. Later, he continued to record as a session musician. He recorded his first recording for Clement “Coxsone” Dodd in 1956. However, these recordings were lost before being mastered. He joined Cluett’s band, Clue J in 1959.
