Ron Westray is a trombonist who is highly respected. His CDs “Jimi Jazz”, Live From Austin”, and “Medical Cures for The Chromatic Commands of The Inner City”, continue to build on the legacy he left behind. His professional achievements include a remarkable list of accomplishments in performance, composition and recording as well as publishing. He has been a trombonist/lead trombonist in some of the most prominent jazz ensembles around the world since the early nineties, including The Mingus Big Band and New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. His compositions for jazz orchestra, jazz big band and smaller jazz ensembles include original works as well as arrangements and/or adaptations to pre-existing music. Some of his works are published by Walrus Music Publishing and some through Wooden Flute Publishing. Jazz at Lincoln Center has commissioned Westray’s Chivalrous Misdemeanors, a collection of tales from Cervante’s Don Quixote. This work was funded by a grant from The Greenwald Foundation via JALC. It received a Pulitzer Prize nomination. Ron has also recorded on sidemen labels like Columbia, Sony Classical and RCA Novus. His achievements in this field have earned him exposure in publications like Ebony and Essence, JazzTimes JazzTimes, Life Magazine, The New Yorker, JazzTimes, JazzTimes, JazzTimes, JazzTimes and JazzTimes. Mr. Westray has performed at venues like The Village Vanguard and The Jazz Standard, The Iridium as well as Sweet Basils, Blues Alley, The Blue Note, The Jazz Standard, The Jazz Standard and The Jazz Standard. Ron has performed in concert with Ray Charles and Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder (with Willie Nelson), Nicholas Payton, Branford Maralis, Stevie Wonder, Roy Haynes, Stevie Wonder, Roy Haynes and others. Westray has been recorded on more than 12 labels. He is a producer, performer and leader.
