Rudder is an instrumental band based in NYC. This quartet is based on long-lasting musical friendships and deep musical relationships. They bring an aggressive, driving rock sound to an instrumental setting. Rudder’s four members are equally responsible for its direction. Chris Cheek (saxophones), is now a somewhat iconic figure in the saxophone community. He is a long-standing member of the Paul Motion electric jazz band. He is also a member Charlie Haden’s Liberation Orchestra, and has been playing guitar with Bill Frisell. Chris is a leader with four albums and has appeared as a sideman or on more than 60 other CDs. Chris will be touring this summer with Bill Frisell and Paul Motion. Rudder is Chris’ tenor and baritone sax player. He also brings his unique use of effects to his horn to the Rudder sound. Henry Hey (keyboards), has had a varied musical career in New York. He has toured with and recorded with many artists, including Bill Evans, Bill Bruford and Monday Michiru. Henry will be touring this summer with Alex Sipiagin, Jeff ‘Tain” Watts and Monday Michiru. Henry performs rhodes and organ, as well as unique synthesized and sampled textures. Rudder is his partner. Tim Lefebvre (bass), is one of New York’s most sought-after and skilled bass players. Tim Lefebvre (bass) has been a part of Saturday Night Live’s house bands over the years. His work can also be heard on The Apprentice and Late Show With David Letterman.
