Rudy Smith

Rudy Smith was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad on 15 June 1943. He learned to play the pan at six years old. He was a teenager and witnessed and heard many of the most renowned pan players, including Evris Barrquain, Theo Stephens and Spree Simon. Smith was influenced greatly by these artists. Rudy Smith developed his unique style through studying the music of jazz legends like Bobby Hutcherson (Milt Jackson), Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane, and John Coltrane.
