Waclaw Zimpel, a clarinet player who is classically trained, is an important presence in the improvised music scene. His projects often draw on the traditions and rituals from many cultures. This project is a combination of two worlds. Carnatic music, India’s oldest form of music, is the first. It is based on a very subtle rhythmmelody. The European tradition is the second. The Indian rhythms are used for the Clarinet parts. They are accompanied by percussion instruments and oscillate between western melodics, Raga system, Indian scales, and Indian rhythms. You can find both traditional Carnatic music as well as original compositions in the repertoire. Saagara is the meeting of five virtuosos. All five have been widely recognized in their respective countries. They come from two different musical backgrounds, but they decided to combine them on one stage. From www.waclawzimpel.pl
