Sarah Bernstein

SARAH BERNSTEIN, a violinist/composer, improviser/vocalist, poet and singer based in NYC, is known as Sarah Bernstein. She was nominated as a “Rising Star” in DownBeat’s 63rd Annual Critics Poll. She is an innovator and a highly-respected violinist, with numerous recordings to her name. Still/Free, her jazz quartet album, is out on Leo Records. Kris Davis and Stuart Popejoy are the co-authors. She also leads the minimalist/experimental duo Unearthish with Satoshi Takeishi, improvising strings Frikativ Quartet and solo performance Exolinger. She is also co-leader of the noise/poetry duo Iron Dog and the synth-pop group Day So Far. Recent recordings and performances include Kid Millions with Anthony Braxton, Steve Swell and Hans Tammen. Sarah hails originally from San Francisco, CA. She has a B.F.A. CalArts offers a B.F.A. in Violin Performance and an M.A. Jazz Studies at CUNY Queens College
