Sarah Tandy

Sarah Tandy was raised in West London and learned piano from an early age. She was also surrounded by classical music as a child. After graduating from a conservatory, she was named BBC Young Musician of the year. She was in her twenties when she realized that it was becoming increasingly difficult for her to function in classical music. The language of classical music did not allow her to fully express herself. She began studying English literature at Cambridge University. Jazz was her first love and she found it a way to find solace. Being away from London allowed her to discover who she was as an artist. She spent hours listening to Mccoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Oscar Peterson and learning how to play the exciting music that was hers. She quickly rose to be one of the most sought-after players of her generation. She plays on the keys for Jazz Jamaica and Nu Civilisation Orchestra, Maisha and Mr Jukes, Yazmin Lacey, Camilla George, Nubya Garcia, Nerija, Daniel Casimirs, Binker Golding, Clark Tracey, and many other venues. Ronnie Scotts House Band and the W3 Collective are her other affiliations. It was Tandy’s residency in the Servant Jazz Quarters… www.codaagency.com
