Although it may be an all-acoustic show (with the exception of the electric bass), School of the Arts is bursting with fusion energy. It will not surprise anyone who is familiar with the names of those involved in this project, which was founded by pianist T Lavitz. He first became aware of this group when he joined The Dixie Dregs, guitarist Steve Morse’s progressive fusion band that produced a series of exceptional albums from 1975 to 1982. They still meet on rare occasions to this day. Lavitz boasts a core group that includes guitarist Frank Gambale and John Patitucci, as well as drummer Dave Weckl. This is a highly skilled set. Lavitz also has built-in chemistry, as the trio spent a lot of time together in Chick Corea’s Elektric Band. All About Jazz
