Scott Tixier

Scott Tixier, born 26 February 1986 in France, is a French jazz violinist who has won numerous awards and is a recording artist. Marcus Miller, a Grammy Award-winning bassist, says Tixier is “making an international name for itself.” I met him in France, and was instantly struck by his unique sound and personality. Pat Metheny, guitarist, says that Scott has “found a place for his self within the elite group of New York Jazz musicians. It is no small feat.” Scott was called “really talented and up-and-coming” by Mark Feldman in a 2010 interview with All About Jazz. Jean-Luc Ponty stated that he has heard Scott’s recordings and seen his live performances. He is a great jazz violinist. Tixier was born Montreuil, France. From the age of five, he studied classical violin and solfege at the conservatory of Paris 10th district as well as at the ENMD Montreuil. He then studied jazz improvisation under Florin Niculescu and Malo Vallois. Scott has performed at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Apollo Theater, The Blue Note Jazz Club, The Apollo Theater, The Smalls Jazz Club, The Stone, Roulette, Smoke Jazz, Hammerstein Ballroom, Joe’s Pub, America’s Got Talent, and on the David Letterman Late show on CBS. Scott has recorded and performed with many artists including Stevie Wonder, Kenny Barron. Christina Aguilera. Ariana Grande. Natalie Cole. Keith David. He was awarded the “Trophees Du Sunside” first prize in Paris, France, in 2007. Tixier made the move to New York in 2008 and continued his career as both an actor and a leader. Scott Tixier also received letters of introduction from Pat Metheny (strings), Jean-Luc Ponty (strings), Marcus Miller, Mark Feldman and Jacques Schwarz-Bart. He was signed by American record label Sunnyside Records in November 2011. In 2012, Tixier won the “Rising Star Violin Award” at the 60th Annual Downbeat Critics Poll. The JazzTimes Critics Poll nominated Tixier as “Best New Artist” in 2013. 2013 saw Tixier being nominated as the “Rising Star Violin” for the second consecutive year in the 61st Annual Downbeat Critics’ Poll. Scott Tixier, the violinist for Harvey Keitel’s 74th birthday celebration, was featured on the Original Motion Pictures Soundtrack of John Wick in 2014. Tixier also made an appearance in the film. The 63rd Downbeat critics poll nominated him as the “Rising Star Violin”. He performed on the “Songs in the Key of Life Tour” in 2014 and 2015. He currently resides in New York.
