Scott Wendholdt

Scott Wendholt, a passionate and articulate trumpeter, approaches music with energy, spirit, and passion. His communication with audiences is sincere and effortless. This veteran was born in the Mile High City (Denver) in the middle of the sixties. He then went to Indiana University, and later moved on to Cincinnati, Ohio. He felt a pull from the East and he migrated to New York City, where he has remained since. He is an in-demand artist who has found himself in many different settings. He has worked and recorded with many artists, including Kenny Garrett and Christian McBride. Scott was a member of Vincent Herring’s quintet for six years. The highly-acclaimed band recorded three albums including Folklore – Live At The Village Vanguard. These bands, as well as other, have taken him on numerous tours throughout the United States, Europe and South America. Scott is credited with having been recorded on over forty CD’s. He is also a respected leader. After four successful Scott Wendholt releases, including three for the Dutch Criss cross label and one for Doubetime, his quintet record What Goes unsaid was released on the Doubletime Jazz label in September 2000. The new CD received positive press, including a Downbeat 4 star review. This trumpeter was also sought by the “Big Band Scene” for his versatility as well as his formidable abilities. His credits include the Carnegie Hall Big Band (led Jon Faddis), Maria Schneider Big Bands, the Bob Mintzer Big Band, and the Buddy Rich Big Band. For the past ten years, he has had the privilege of being a member the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (formerly Thad/Mel Lewis bigband). He is still highly sought after on the playing and educational scene. Scott currently teaches at Jamey Aebersold’s summer jazz camps and is on the Manhattan School of Music faculty.
