Space Case

Space Case, Auckland’s jazz-rock band from the early to mid 80s, was formed by drummer Frank Gibson and Brian Smith. Murray McNabb was their keyboard player. On their debut album Executive Decision, 81, Bruce Lynch was added to the core. The cover was designed to draw attention and might have been an idea of Terence O’NeillJoyce (Ode headman). For the follow-up Space Case Two of 83 Kim Paterson joined on trumpet, Americans Ron McClure (bass) and Claudio Roditi (trumpet/flugelhorn), and Andy Brown (bass) were guests. The Space Case music was clearly influenced by funk and jazz after the Dr Tree (Gibson McNabb, Paterson and Lynch) had established exploratory, fiery jazz-rock as their territory in the mid-70s. from http://www.elsewhere.co.nz
