Ståhls Trio

Mattias Stahl, a Swedish vibes player, is the most prominent Scandinavian mallet explorer of recent years. He is an articulate improviser and wise composer, and well-versed in jazz history both on the Atlantic and has a distinctive melodic and rhythmic sound. Stahl’s sounds are essential to some of the best bands in Sweden or Norway, such as Martin Kuchen’s reed player, Eirik Hegdal’s Team Hegdal and Cecilia Persson’s Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. Stahl’s new trio features like-minded, open and versatile collaborators–double bassist Joe Williamson and drummer Christopher Cantillo, who played together in the alternative trio The Inconvenience.
