Statesmen Of Jazz

This recording is quite historic, as it features Benny Waters, altoist and the oldest jazz musician, just a month shy at 93. His feature on “Blue Waters”, is undoubtedly the highlight. The Statesmen of Jazz, a group sponsored American Federation of Jazz Societies, also includes Claude Williams (86), Clark Terry (74), Joe Wilder (72), Al Grey (69), Buddy Tate (79), Jane Jarvis (79), Milt Hinton (84), as well as Panama Francis (76). Even though Tate was somewhat past his prime, and Wilder was a bit more erratic after dental surgery, this date is full of infectious swing. Waters, Williams and Terry are the solo winners.
