Steve Cardenas, guitarist, began his musical career in Kansas City. He has been an integral member of the New York City Jazz community since 1995. Steve has recorded and performed with many highly-respected musicians. He was also a member of the Paul Motian Electrical Bebop Band, which later became the Paul Motian Octet. Steve currently is a member the Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra and Steve Swallow Quintet. He has performed at numerous international music festivals, theatres, and clubs throughout Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. Steve is also a leader of his own trio, and has three albums with his compositions as the lead. Sunnyside Records released his most recent album, West of Middle in 2010. Steve is also an accomplished educator. He is a faculty member at The New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music, New York City. There he directs Thelonious Monk Ensemble and Guitar Duos classes. He also offers individual music instruction. He was also a faculty member at the California Institute of the Arts. Steve, Don Sickler and Steve are co-authors of Thelonious Monk Fakebook by Hal Leonard Publishing.
