We are the STL Free Jazz Collective. We are Michael Castro, poet. Baba Mike Nelson plays trumpets, vocals, and shells. Jerome “Jay Dubz” Williams plays alto saxophone. Paul Steinbeck is our electric bassist, Gary Sykes is our percussionist/drummer and Jim Hegarty plays piano, keyboards, and electronics. Our first performance was at the Tavern of Fine Arts, St. Louis, on March 24, 2015. STL, a free jazz group, is made up of some of the best musicians and improvisers in the region.
