American jazz chamber group, The String Trio of New York, is the String Trio of New York. The group was formed in 1977 by John Lindberg, guitarist James Emery, and Billy Bang, the violinist. Although they started out improvising and writing their own music, they soon began to take on commissions as well as arranging other jazz musicians’ work. The group’s debut album was released in 1979. They remained the same until 1986 when Bang left the band and Charles Burnham took over. After Burnham’s departure in 1991, Regina Carter replaced him. She left the group in the mid-1990s. Through 2001, Diane Monroe joined the group. Rob Thomas then joined. From Wikipedia
