Born on 8 September 1947, Morris David Brough Pert was was a Scottish composer, drummer/percussionist, and pianist who composed in the fields of both contemporary classical and jazz-rock music. Three symphonies and piano music were among his compositions. He also composed chamber music and solo instrumental music. Ankh, an electronic work for Carnyx, is a major late work. Pert was a rock musician who spent two years (1970-1972), with Stomu Yamashta, a Japanese percussionist. He was a member of the ensembles “East Wind” (Red Buddha Theatre). He founded the band “Come to the Edge”, with Robin Thompson, Andrew Powell and others in 1971. After personnel changes in 1973, the band was renamed “Suntreader” or “Suntreader”, and released two albums. Pert was a member of jazz-rock band Brand X in 1977, where he composed three songs for their second album. Pert toured extensively with the band until 1979.
