Symphonic Jazz Orchestra

The Symphonic Jazz Orchestra was founded in 2001. It is a non-profit organisation that works to preserve the American symphonic style of jazz. Through its commissioning program, the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra inspires the next generation of listeners through its Music in the Schools program and its Community Outreach Program. The SJO offers free concerts, master classes and assemblies to more than 40,000 students and families in Los Angeles County. OUR MISSION: COMMISSION, and PERFORM symphonic music compositions. This musical genre blends the American jazz language with European orchestral traditions. RECORD its commissioned pieces for an international audience. INSPIRE and EDUCATE the future generation through Music in the Schools and other Community Outreach Programs. Our 67-member orchestra performed six world premieres and three U.S. premieres. The orchestra is composed of some of the best jazz, studio and concert musicians in Southern California. MUSIC DIRECTOR: Mitch Glickman, http://sjomusic.org
