Taurey Butler was born in East Orange, New Jersey. He began piano lessons at age 7. He didn’t discover his love for jazz until high school, when his band director gave him a solo piano recording by Oscar Peterson. He knew that jazz was going to be a part of his life for the rest of his life after he heard the recording. Dartmouth College graduated him with a B.A. and B.E. After graduating from Dartmouth College with a B.A., B.E. in Electrical Engineering, he decided to pursue music and started working at the Cotton Club in New York City. Taurey has been performing all over the globe in various venues and festivals since then. These include The Blue Note NYC and the New Orleans Jazz Festival. His extraordinary talent has allowed him to perform alongside many well-known artists. These include Eldee Young and Ernie Watts, Carmen Bradford and Bobby Durham, Dave Valentin and Ralph Peterson.
