Taylor Ho Bynum performs on the cornet and other brass instruments, is a composer, bandleader and an interdisciplinary collaborator with artists from dance, film and theatre. He has been called “a young brass master, compelling composer” by Jon Garelick of Boston Phoenix, “one the most exciting figures of jazz’s new generation” (Steve Dollar of Time Out Chicago) and “one his generation’s best avant-garde figures” by Phillip Lutz of The New York Times. David Adler, City Arts, writes that Bynum is “a quick-witted, virtuosic musician, steeped with the flutters and growls associated with the late Bill Dixon. The tunefulness of Don Cherry, bluesy humor of Lester Bowie.” John Fordam, Guardian (UK), describes Bynum’s playing as “splicing bluesy elisions of early jazz brass players into the spiky rhythm-pattern conundrums of modern music with artists like Jay Kao Hwang, Joe Morris, Tyshawn Sorey and Cecil Taylor. Anthony Braxton’s continued association with Bynum is widely recognized as one the most productive partnerships in the composer’s long history. His work with Bill Dixon has produced some of his greatest works. He is also vice president of Dave Douglas’s Festival of New Trumpet Music, FONT Music’s founding partner, Firehouse 12 Records’ president, and Braxton’s Tri-Centric Foundation president. from http://taylorhobynum.com
