Since 1973, the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra is a major player in international jazz. Aardvark is the longest-running large jazz group in the world. The band’s wide-ranging shows are well-known. They feature new music from Mark Harvey, the founder/director, as well as classics and rarities by Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Aardvark has performed more than 175 pieces for jazz orchestra and is featured on 14 CDs. Leo Records is one of the most adventurous music labels in the world. Aardvark has had guest artists such as jazz legends Sheila Jordan and Jimmy Giuffre, Dominique Eade and Lewis Porter, along with Matt Savage. Mark Harvey, composer/trumpeter, is the founder of the Aardvark jazz orchestra and teaches composition and jazz studies at MIT. Harvey has performed at major venues such as Fenway Park, Symphony Hall, Boston, and the Knitting Factory (NYC), The National Gallery of Art, DC, the Left Bank Jazz Society, MD, the Southern California Institute of Architecture, CA, and the Berlin Jazz Festival, Germany. His musical credits include recordings with George Russell’s Living Time Orchestra, Blue Note, and Baird Hersey.
