After barely three years, the Amazing Keystone Big-Band has already possessed the spirit and soul of one of the greatest big bands of swing era and the unmatched creativity and virtuosity of contemporary jazz. Bastien Ballaz and Frederic Nardin, Jon Boutellier, David Enhco and Jon Boutellier are the leaders of this wild jazz machine. They don’t just reproduce the music of masters like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, or Thad Jones. Instead, they see this orchestra as a way to explore new ideas and still keep the same old standards. This music is immortalized by the Amazing Keystone Big Band. They also express their creativity through their arrangements, compositions and solos. This big band’s greatest strength is its impressive soloists, from Lyon, Paris and Brussels. These young men have already earned a good reputation. The Keystone Big Band has had the chance to work with and arrange music for international artists like: Rhoda, Liz McComb and Michel Hausser. The orchestra has performed on prestigious stages like Jazz a Vienne and Rhino Jazz, Monastier and Opera of Saint-Etienne. The Big Band is currently involved in several projects: “Peter and the Wolf”, a Prokofiev-inspired big band, was ordered by Jazz a Vienne festival; “Jazz and Cinema”, a program ordered by La Musique des cuivres festival in Monastier (France); and “Dance At The Gym”, a jazz adaptation (L. Bernstein). The Amazing Keystone Big Band continues their adventures with a new adaptation of Camille Saint-Saens’ masterpiece of classical music, The Carnival of Animals.
