The Blue Note Seven

The Blue Note album, Horace Silver u0026 the Jazz Messengers was the basis of what we call the “hard bop” movement in the mid-50s. Hard bop was able to use rural blues and gospel music to find a new audience for jazz. Booking agent Jack Randall suggested the idea of a tribute group that would carry on Blue Note’s 70th anniversary. The band was then formed by Bill Charlap, Randall and Danny Melnick. The idea for a recording became inevitable after the tour’s plans reached more than 50 American cities. Although the Blue Note 7 is not an all-star band, it is a stellar group. It is much more than a tribute group. They are a band with strong music that they interpret through new arrangements and solos. From www.amazon.com
