The Core Trio

The avant-garde quartet Rosta included the Core Trio. The Core Trio was formed in 2004 after the dissolution of that group. The Core Trio was formed in 2004 with Seth Paynter (saxes), Richard Cholakian (drums) and Thomas Helton (bassist/leader). They developed their own unique style of compositional improv. TCT’s first CD was recorded in 2013 with Robert Boston, a long-time friend and New York pianist. Robert is one of few musicians who can appreciate the controlled chaos and pacing of the trio. Richard Cholakian, the drummer, left the group shortly after the release. After much thought, the group hired Joe Hertenstein as their replacement. The trio performed a successful series of shows in NY with Hertenstein at Downtown Music Gallery and Freedys Backroom. Goodbye Blue Monday was also played by the group. The trio recorded their new Record in NY with pianist Matthew Shipp. It will be released in summer 2014. They also plan to release a trio record and another collaboration with trombonist Steve Swell.
