The Missourians was a band from the midwest that was heavily influenced by Benny Moten. They moved to New York in the mid-1920s and performed at the Cotton Club as Andy Preer and The Cotton Club Orchestra. Duke Ellington was appointed after Preer died in 1927. Today, the Missourians are most remembered for their association to Cab Calloway. He was their first collaborator in New York in 1928. He took control of the band in 1930 and changed its name to Cab Caloway and His Orchestra. They were once again the Cotton Club’s house band. R.Q. R.Q.
