The Orchestra is an 18-piece Big Band that features prominent Danish jazz composers and musicians. Since the orchestra’s first performance at Montruex Jazz festival 1991, the band has maintained a consistent sound that is clear and homogenous. This reflects the musicians commitment to working together and playing difficult music with the greatest conviction. There are many musical styles that the different composers use, from melodic and groove-oriented to contemporary classical music inspiration. An awareness of and knowledge about the Big Band tradition is a common trait. The majority of the composers were part of the Bob Brookmeyer composition workshop in Copenhagen 1996-1999.
