The Unity Band is a diverse group of young South African musicians. They strive to create new music that celebrates South Africa’s cultural diversity. This Cape Town-based group is inspired by many genres and allows their musical influences to flow together to create their unique identity. Since the release of Fabric, The Unity Band has made a name for itself in the local music scene. The band’s diverse musical influences are beautifully captured in this album, which combines elements of jazz, hip-hop, poetry, salsa and funk. It also features a contemporary African sound. Lumanyano “Unity”, a drummer and singer, founded The Unity Band at the South African College of Music, University of Cape Town. This is where all members of the band studied. Each member of The Unity Band is an integral part, but they all have musical talents and are highly sought-after.
