Muhal Richard abrams composed the music. A few years before his death in 2002, Bobby Zankel and the Warriors of the Wonderful Sound gave Muhal Richard Abrams a commission to compose new big band music. This was for the Philadelphian ensemble, which is well-known for their previous work with scores signed by Rudresh Mahanthappa, Julius Hemphill and Steve Coleman. He was present at the first rehearsals and he composed the 70 pages, 16 parts of “Soundpath”. Although the premiere was a success in 2012, it was not presented publicly until 2018, months after Abrams’ death. A few adaptations were made. Marty Ehrlich, who worked closely with Abrams’ composer, was invited to conduct the concert. Additional instrumentalists with familiarity with the master’s musical visions were also added. The concert was given a standing ovation again and 17 musicians returned to the studio the following day. The resulting document is a landmark one that you won’t want to miss. From bandcamp
