The Whammies features luminaries from the improvised musical scenes in Boston, Chicago, and the Netherlands. They are a new quintet dedicated to the music and repertoire of Steve Lacy. The all-star lineup includes Han Bennink, a Dutch drummer who was a frequent collaborator with Lacy in both the 1970’s u0026 80’s, as well Jorrit Daijkstra, who studied under Lacy shortly before his death in 2004. The group performs a variety of Lacy songs, including Bone, As Usual and Dutch Masters. They also play some of his more experimental and conceptual works, such as The Wire and Ducks.
