Each of the musicians were born and raised in Israel and eventually settled in New York. There they developed their unique style and technique over many years. Assaf Gleizner (Piano and Melodica), Kobyhayon (Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Oud) and Nadav Zelniker (Drums and Percussion) met in 2009 for their first gig. They performed original compositions as well as arrangements of traditional Israeli music. They were able to see the serendipitous connection after only one show. The trio was renamed Trio Shalva and the name was chosen to represent the Hebrew word “serenity”. The trio will explore new and arranged compositions that combine elements of Jazz with Middle-Eastern, Israeli music.
