Tuomi

The boom that Scandinavian singers has triggered over the past few decades is huge. Rebekka Bakken and Kari Bremnes and Rigmor Gustafsson and Caecilie Norby names are currently luring German Jazz audiences into music halls, record shops, and zealously creating a new definition for contemporary 3Euro-Jazz2 while effortlessly cutting its umbilical chord from the US schools. The Finnish voice has been absent from this elite group of Nordic voices for a while. Kristiina Tuomi is an original and exciting vocalist that puts Finland on the map in modern jazz song-writing, and this with trans-European flair. Rarely has a jazz vocalist’s debut album received such universal praise from music journalists, reviews, and features as Tuomi, “Tightropewalker”. The trio’s second album, “The Expense of Spirit”, was released on 3/7/2007. It once again shows their fearlessness of heights with an artistic and playful concoction of jazzy music, Shakespeare-inspired lyrics and southern harmonies. Kristina’s natural soprano, Kristina Tiomi, is confident and competent when it engages in dialogue with Carsten Därr’s brilliant piano playing as well as Carlos Bica’s singing contrabass. It is full of beautiful, transparent songs that seduce, seduce, and fascinate listeners. From www.traumton.de
