Since its inception, the University of Northern Iowa School of Music has had jazz as an integral part of their curriculum for almost 50 years. In the 1950’s, students formed the original band and ran it until the program became UNI Jazz Studies. The nationally recognized program now includes several small and large jazz ensembles, as well as a complete curriculum of jazz studies courses. Arts Midwest praised the UNI Jazz Studies program, comparing it with other programs in the country. From www.uni.edu
