Hayden Chisholm, a New Zealand-born saxophonist, is one of the most prominent jazz musicians to emerge in this country. Hayden, a Taranaki native, has been living in Germany since the 1990s. There he has established himself to be an instrumentalist as well as a composer at the forefront European jazz. He will be returning to New Zealand in 2018 to play with Norman Meehan and Paul Dyne as he performs jazz music. Their new album, ‘Unwind’ (Rattle Records), is promoted on the tour. It features original music by the trio. John Fenton (JazzLocal32), described Hayden’s music as “pure unalloyed, ballad beauty” – a description that was incredibly rare.
