Vahagni (vahagni Turgutyan)

Vahagni is a new voice in Instrumental music. He has been creating his own unique style by bending the genres Flamenco, Jazz and World music. Vahagni has received numerous awards, five-star reviews, and an unstoppable, forward-moving career. Vahagn Turgutyan, also known as Vahagn, was born in Yerevan in Armenia in 1985. Vahagni was raised in a family of Artists. His father Sarkis Turgutyan (guitar soloist for National Philharmonic of Armenia), Mother Satenik ShahNazaryan (a theatre Actress) and Uncle Artur Shahnazaryan (ethno-musicologist and National Artistic director of Armenia) all had a significant influence on Vahagni’s musical development. Vahagni started playing the guitar at nine years old under his father’s instruction. Vahagni was very interested in Flamenco Music from a young age. After many years of studying with his father, Vahagni set out on his first trip to Andalusia in Spain. Vahagni studied Flamenco guitar under the guidance of Paco Serrano. He also participated in many Festivals in Andalusia. Vahagni had the chance to perform for Manolo Sanlucar, his childhood idol, during the “Cursos Superior del Guitarra Flamenca” in Malaga. Vahagni’s unique and original sound impressed Sanlucar, who offered to teach him. Vahagni returned to America and recorded three studio albums. “Short Stories” 2008 was picked up by Music Camp. It is a bestseller in Japan. It features musicians like Jimmy Branly, Carlitos Del Puerto, and Luis Conte.
