Thodoris Ziarkas and Nikos Ziarkas founded Valia Calda in London. Their mutual passion for music composition is combined in this project. It draws inspiration from the Greek Folk tradition while allowing for free improvisation. The compositions are based on a variety of rhythms and many sonic possibilities, which are merged with folk tune arrangements. Each member brings their own unique creativity and approach to the material, exploring together the group’s musical boundaries. Valia Calda was invited by Radio 3 to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in September 2014. The event was recorded and broadcast by Radio 3. EFG London Jazz Festival 2014 and Vortex Jazz Club were just a few of the other performances. After a tour in Greece, the band released their debut EP in November 2014.
