Vida Blue

Vida Blue was an electronic band that featured Page McConnell (Phish) and Oteil Burbridge, (The Allman Brothers Band Aquarium Rescue Unit) and Russell Batiste (“The Meters”). Vida Blue, a 1970s Major League Baseball pitcher, gave Vida Blue its name. Blue joined the band in San Francisco’s Fillmore in 2004. The same name was used by a screamo group from Iowa City, Iowa for part of 2001. According to reports, the band changed their name to Ten Grand after McConnell paid them $10,000.00. McConnell met The Meters and The Allman Brothers Band in 2001 and asked them about Vida Blue. McConnell booked McConnell time to record at New Orleans’s Piety Street Recording Studio. Later, McConnell added instrumental overdubs from Vermont. Vida Blue, the self-titled album was released on Elektra Records in 2002. The Illustrated Band was their second album. It was released on Sanctuary Records in 2003. The Spam Allstars are a Latin Grammy-nominated Afro-Cuban sextet. They toured extensively in April 2002 and July 2002. April 2003, April 2003. January 2004, June 2004, and December 2004. Their last public appearance was at the 2004 Bonnaroo Music Festival.
