Vince Weber, October 26, 1953 – February 23, 2019, was a German blues/boogie-woogie pianist. Weber was born in Hamburg, West Germany. He began piano lessons at the age of ten in 1963. His sister introduced him the blues to him by buying him records of Lightnin’ Hopkins, Taj Mahal, Champion Jack Dupree and Michael Pewny. He was sixteen when he began playing in Hamburg’s harbour bars. Hans-Georg Moller introduced him to the boogie-woogie way of playing the piano. He also met Otto Waalkes, a comedian who booked him to open for his current tour. He released his first album, “The Boogie Man” on Otto Waalkes’ Russl Rackords in 1975. It was nominated for the ‘Deutscher Schallplattenpreis 1976″. Part of this album was recorded in the Fabrik, where he performed once a month since 1976. He traveled to the United States in 1978 for the first time. He was appointed disc jockey on the local NDR radio station in 1980. There he hosted a weekly Blues broadcast. He performed with Big Joe Williams and Henry Heggen, Axel Zwingenberger and Jay McShann at local radio stations. He also played with Chuck Berry, Champion Jack Dupree, Chuck Berry, and James Booker at various music festivals throughout Germany. In later years, Vince Weber had to reduce his stage activities due to illness. He was 66 years old when he died in February 2020.
