Wally Rose

Wally Rose, born October 2, 1913 in Oakland, California, and died January 12, 1997 in Walnut Creek (California). He was an American jazz pianist and ragtime musician. Rose was an integral part of San Francisco’s jazz scene during the 1940s, 1950s. From 1939 to 1950, he was Lu Watters’s pianist, the Yerba Buena Jazz Band. He then played with Bob Scobey (1951-1954) and Turk Murphy (1952-1954), before focusing on solo work the rest of his life. He recorded several albums for Good Time Jazz and the Jazz Man imprints in 1941-42. In 1982, he released his first album as a leader after being absent for 24 years. He made a cameo appearance in Bitter Harvest 1993 as the Hurley Bank Guard. Allmusic
