West Hill Blast Quartet

Dan Spicer (bamboo, shenai and trumpet), is one of three members of the trio In Threads. He also performs solo spoken word, poetry, and improvisation. Ron Caines (tenor and alto saxophones), was a founding member of the UK Prog-psych groupEast Of Eden in the 1960s. He is an accomplished visual artist and has been a key part of improvising groups in both Bristol and Brighton. Gus Garside (double basse) has been a musician since at least the 1970s. He is a regular at Brighton’s Safehouse Collective and is also a member of Arc, Sylvia Hallett, Danny Kingshill, and the electro-acoustic duo Static Memories. Andy Pyne (drums), has performed in a wide variety of settings, including a duo featuring Thurston Moore, freak-Improv at TheBlack Neck Band Of The Common Loon and No-Wave With Medicine and Duty. He also played post-punk indie-pop and Noise rock with Kellar. The West Hill Blast Quartet brings together four musicians to create improvised statements that are informed by their shared love of free music and inspired by masters like Ornette Coleman, Albert Ayler and Art Ensemble of Chicago.
