Wildflower

Wildflower is an ensemble that includes Idris Rahman (sax), Leon Brichard, and Tom Skinner (drums). The Wildflower trio is a meditative, spiritual and uplifting musical experience that embraces freedom. Skinner, the drummer, plays with the beats and grooves hard in a variety of rhythmic turns. Rahman’s contributions include subtle conversational interplay, loudly expressed anger passion, and the most delicate whispers. They convey a depth of emotion as well as a deep understanding of musical structure in an ever-changing sea of musical conversations. The trio uses simple melodies that are arresting and catchy as their starting point to create improvised emotions. They can use powerful climaxes or hauntingly beautiful, breath-like passages, and anything in between, to create unique structures and forms that respond to the acoustics of the environment. The compositional influences of the trio are influenced by the spiritual jazz pioneers John and Alice Coltrane and Yusef Lateef. However, the range is much wider and the unifying factor is the spontaneity and interaction between the musicians. Instead of being confined to a rigid structure, the tunes are free to develop and breathe, creating new interpretations that give each performance an unforgettable experience. From bandcamp
